Abbeydale Singers Summer Concert

June 28, 2019

St John's Church, Fulwood Road, Ranmoor, Sheffield S10

Sheffield Young Singers are delighted to have been invited to join Abbeydale Singers in their summer concert, under the baton of our conductor, Helen Cowen.

The first half of our concert will include sacred works by Wood, Tallis, J.L. Bach and new to us, Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo. Will Todd's In This Place will add a specially atmospheric dimension to singing in St John's. Then follows a selection of French songs by Passereau, Saint Saens, Faure and Ravel.

Also joining Abbeydale Singers for the concert are  young soprano Isabel Lovell, and accompanists Peter Heginbotham on organ and Rosie Attwood-Harris on piano.

The second half starts with Eriks Esenvalds' hauntingly beautiful Stars accompanied, intriguingly, by wine glasses 'played' by Sheffield Young Singers.  Also featured are romantic pieces by Schubert, our good friend Andrew Carter, and Bob Chilcott (sung with the Sheffield Young Singers), and the liltingly evocative folk song Underneath the Stars by Kate Rusby, the 'Barnsley Nightingale'.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.  During the interval the choir will serve you with a complementary wine or soft drink.
